Doris Ruth Pifer, 96, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Gaskill Township, Jefferson County, on January 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Lawrence Clyde Bair and Bertha Frances (McCarty) Bair.
On November 15, 1946, she married her sweetheart, James Richard Pifer. They enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage and raised a wonderful family.
Doris was a devoted homemaker, her home was always immaculately kept and filled with love and laughter. She was a nurturing mother who raised her children with patience, generosity and wisdom, creating a foundation of love that shaped generations. Doris was one of the first residents of Grace Place, she thoroughly enjoyed the company of many friends she made while living there. One of her enjoyments was listening to old country music on the radio.
She is survived by five daughters, Vicki (Ben) Lowmaster of Punxsutawney, Sandra (Marc) Learn of New York, Pamela (Ron) Kramer of Punxsutawney, Kim (Harry) Painter of Punxsutawney and Marlene (Donald) Shotts of Dayton; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren, one sister, Lila Wells of Punxsutawney.
Preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Jim, one brother, Ronald Bair; two sisters, Jean Summerson and Evelyn Camuso.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
