Darlene Ann (Kovalyak) Carney, 66, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born in DuBois on December 2, 1958, a daughter of the late William Kovalyak and Dorothy Marie (Bracken) Kovalyak.
On September 15, 1979, she married her best friend, Thomas Mark Carney. They enjoyed forty-six years and raised a beautiful daughter.
Mrs. Carney was a member of Saint’s Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church.
She was a 1976 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School, during her school years she was on the Honor Roll and active in the band front.
Darlene was a familiar friendly face who spent many years working in retail, always greeting customers with a warm smile and a kind word.
Outside of work, her greatest joy was her family-she loved spending time with them, celebrating special occasions and simply being together.
In addition to her husband, Tom, she is survived by one daughter, Amber (Richard) Burkett of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Noah and Tucker Burkett.
Preceded in death by her parents and her only sister, Karen Kovalyak.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Memorial donations may be made in Darlene’s memory to Lisa’s Ladybugs, St Judes Children Research Hospital or the ASPCA.
