He was born in Ringgold on August 16, 1929, a son of the late Charles Ervin “Deck” Reed and Vera Marie (Hoover) Reed.
On January 16, 1954, he married the love of his life, Shirley Rose Fenstermaker. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2022.
Lee was a member of the Ringgold United Methodist Church.
A man of strength, integrity, and an adventurous spirit, he lived a life filled with hard work, love, and deep devotion to his family and country.
Mr. Reed proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of duty and resilience that he carried with him throughout his life.
After his honorable service, Lee managed a local brick plant, where his leadership and work ethic earned him great respect. Later, he became a successful businessman, owning and operating coal trucks, providing for his family and contributing to the community. His employment also included Doverspike Coal Company and Frye Electric.
Despite his many responsibilities, Lee always made time for the things that brought him joy. Riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with his beloved wife, Shirley, by his side was one of his favorite pastimes. Together, they embarked on countless road trips, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Lee was also an avid photographer, capturing the beauty of everyday life through his lens, especially the moments spent with his cherished family. Above all, Lee was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His family meant everything to him, and he took great pride in their accomplishments, always offering words of wisdom and support. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Lee was also a member of the Ringgold Fire Company and was instrumental in the construction of the building. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as playing baseball as #3 on the Ringgold/Timblin teams for many years.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Doug “Muggsy”) Lowmaster and Jacqueline “Toot” (Robert “Jerky”) Powell; all of Ringgold; five grandchildren, Amber (Brad) Brocious, Anteisha (Scott) Stahlman, Jeb (Danikka Kopas) Powell, Tanner (Amber) Lowmaster and Brodi (Nicole Traina) Lowmaster; six great grandchildren, Dannika and Jett Brocious, Parker and Nolan Stahlman, Walker and Wyatt Lowmaster.
