Carol Ann Kromer, 87, of Mayport, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.
She was born in Syracuse, New York on August 18, 1938, a daughter of the late John F. Darby and Eunice (Edwards) Darby.
Carol worked in record keeping at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse and an AT&T telephone operator prior to moving to Punxsutawney. She was an incredibly hard worker, and after her move she worked at the Shoe factory and Standard Pennant all while raising four rambunctious boys.
In 1982, she married Howard Cecil Kromer, they enjoyed thirty-three years of marriage prior to his death on May 16, 2015.
Her grandchildren brought her joy as well as her dearly loved dog “Peanut.” She enjoyed going shopping and looking around.
She is survived by three sons, Scott Daniel “Dusty” Rhodes III of Reynoldsville, Gary Douglas (Kim) Rhodes of Mayport, and Jeffrey Rhodes of Reynoldsville; -- grandchildren, Melissa Painter, Michelle DeHaven, Amy Rhodes, Scott Daniel Montez, Carold Ann Rhodes, Jesse James (Cassandra) Rhodes, Jason (Sarah) Vigorito, Michael Vigorito, Gary Dylan Rhodes, Brandy Rhodes and Darin Rhodes; nine great grandchildren, Jada, McKenzie, Devin, Damian, Laken, Brayden, Daniel, Charlotte and Colton; one sister, Patricia Stever of Syracuse.
Preceded in death by her son Terrance Joseph Rhodes; three brothers, John, James and Robert Darby.
Friends will be received from 11-2 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Jeff Stahlman
Interment will follow at Circle Hill Cemetery.
