Bonnie Jean Reiter, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 09, 2025, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
She was born in Bradford on October 2, 1949, a daughter of the late Keith M. Niver and Dorothy Jean (Zetts) Niver.
On November 28, 1969, she married Alton B. Reiter. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2024.
Bonnie was a 1967 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. She went on to earn a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Centre County Vocational-Technical School Practical Nursing Program. She worked as a nurse at Punxsutawney Area Hospital for forty-three years prior to her retirement. Bonnie was a kind and compassionate nurse. Her nursing style combined sincere medical care mixed with her straightforward thinking and a little humor. She always had a little twinkle in her eye and semi smirk because of something she just said or perhaps something she didn’t say.
Her devotion to her boys was evident, she was very proud of their accomplishments and deeply loved her grandchildren. Bonnie shared an unwavering bond with her brothers and sisters. Her enjoyments were reading, particularly mystery, murder novels, digging in the flower gardens and growing pretty flowers in the summertime. When she had the chance, she loved spending time at the beach and swimming.
She is survived by two sons, Eduard Z. Reiter of Haymarket, Virginia and Keith (Jennifer) Reiter of Indiana; three grandchildren, Jacob, Addison and Benjamin; one sister, Cheryl (Stanley) Olinger of Lower Burrell; three brothers, William (Carol) Niver of Big Run, John (Shelly) Niver of Big Run and Ward “Buster” (Cathy) Niver of Reynoldsville; numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be viewing. Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by her nephew, Ben Fitzgerald.
