Barney Delmont Yeager, 60, of Cherry Tree, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024, with his beloved wife and daughter by his side.
He was born in Punxsutawney on December 3, 1963, a son of the late Darrell James Yeager and Grace L. (Acheson) Yeager.
Barney was a 1981 graduate of Purchase Line High School.
On June 28, 1995, he married the love of his life, Penny Diane Pearce.  They enjoyed twenty-eight years of marriage together.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator stripping coal. He worked for various coal companies over the years, his last employment was with Ridge Energy Company.
He was a member of the Glen Campbell American Legion Post 435 and a member of the NRA.
Barney enjoyed four wheeling and Jeeping with Penny, he also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing.  He was talented and made various things by repurposing old barn wood, some of which included several benches for people. He had an artistic flare and could carve, paint and draw with ease.  Barney could always be counted on to help his father in-law with the farming each year.  In his spare time, he enjoyed walking in the woods and enjoying nature. Animals were drawn to Barney, he loved animals and particularly his own pets.  He and could comfort them with his “dog Whisperer” kindness and gentleness.
In addition to his wife Penny, he is survived by one daughter, Shawna (Alec) Sunderlin of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Darrell (Bonnie) Yeager of Glen Campbell and James (Annie) Yeager of Cherry Tree; three sisters, Janet Askew and fiancé Ken Patterson of Clymer, Madelyn (Don) Kemp of Worthington and Wendy (Dave) Pearce of Glen Campbell;  brother in-law, Tony Oros of Nanty Glo; sister in-law, Barb Wimer of Downington.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas Wimer, and one sister, Darlene Oros.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation.  Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Memorial donations may be made in Barney’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
