Arlene Vera Anderson, 88, of Punxsutawney, passed away January 16, 2024, at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.
She was born on November 30, 1935 in Dixonville, PA, the daughter of the late Orie Edwin Pierce and Zella Mae (Lockard) Pierce. On November 5, 1955, she married the love of her life, Harold Joseph Anderson, Sr.
She was a faithful member of the Smithport Wesleyan Methodist Church, with a great love for Jesus and her church family. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and spent many hours enjoying the outdoors with a special love for birds. But above all, she loved her family, nurturing each and every addition to her family with her unconditional love in a way that only Nana could do.
Arlene is survived by her loving husband of sixty-eight years, Harold J. Anderson, Sr; together they created a legacy of love including their four children: Harold Joseph Anderson, Jr and his wife Kathy of Rossiter, Tationia “Shawnee” Friend and her husband Jack of Punxsutawney, Linnea “Lynn” Smith and her husband Alan of Punxsutawney, and Rita Campagnola and Dave Boboige of DuBois; eleven grandchildren: Tonya Milton and her husband Daniel, Tennelle Dienes and her husband Paul, Leshawna Greenawalt and her husband Paul “PJ”, Letrisha Herr and her husband Chip, Misty Kimmerlee and her husband Jeff, Jared Pennington and his wife Brittany, Dr Kelley Smith and husband Joseph, Jodi Presloid and husband James Joseph Campagnola and girlfriend Kate, Matthew Campagnola and his wife Erin and Jaci Campagnola and boyfriend Aaron; 28 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren with another on the way; and one sister, LaRue Frederick of Laporte, Colorado.
In addition to her parents, Arlene is preceded in death by a beloved granddaughter, Amber Pennington and three brothers, Bernard Eugene “Gene” Pierce, Donald Pierce and Maynard Andrew “Andy” Pierce.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., in Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the funeral home with Rev Bill Davis and Marlin Yates officiating.
Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Arlene’s memory to the Hahne Cancer Center.
