Alton B. Reiter passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Born the son of David and Mary (Weber) Reiter on July 20, 1947, in Clearfield, PA. On November 28, 1970, he married the former Bonnie Jean Niver, they shared over 54 years of marriage.
Alton loved his family and was also an avid hunter. He enjoyed watching football, hockey, talking about politics and watching Gold Rush on the Discovery Channel. Mr. Reiter was a member of the Big Run “Tea”, and a long-time member of the Big Run Sasquatch Club.
He was a 1965 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Germany as a radar technician. Alton was employed at McDowels Manufacturing in Dubois, PA, McClark Sec. Systems in Punxsutawney, PA, before retiring from the PA Assistance Office in Punxsutawney, PA.
In addition to his beloved wife Bonnie, he is survived by two sons, Eduard Reiter of Haymarket, VA, and Keith (Jennifer) Reiter of Indiana, PA. Three grandchildren, Jacob, Addison, and Benjamin Reiter, a brother, Rodney J. (Georgann) Reiter and nephew Eric Reiter. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., in Big Run, PA. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.shumakerfh.com.
