Robert W. Chambers

Robert W. Chambers, age 96, died September 24, 2017 at Mahoning Riverside Manor, Punxsutawney. He was born Aug. 18, 1921 in Punxsutawney, the son of the late Robert & Mina Kuntz Chambers. He was married to Evelyn Dinger, who survives, on Feb. 12, 1951.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Forces as an aerial gunnery instructor, followed as a crew member on both B-17’s and B-29’s.

Mr. Chambers was a member of the Punxsutawney Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, Elder and Clerk of Session. He was a member of John W. Jenks Masonic Lodge #534. He served on the Citizen’s Advisory Board of the Punxsutawney Planning Commission, was a former member of the Lion’s Club and Red Cross Board, having served as the Blood Program Chairman. He was also a member and Treasurer of the Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club.

Mr. Chambers was the owner of Chamber’s Dairy until its sale in 1970. He then became a sales representative of V. L. McClay & Sons of Pittsburgh until he retired in 1989.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two sons, Judge Douglas R. Chambers and wife Patricia of Punxsutawney; Gregory A. Chambers and wife Dr. Deborah Chambers of Bluffton, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Dr. Michael Chambers and wife Krista of Pittsburgh; Melissa Obidowski and husband Todd of Pittsburgh; Dr. Allison Palumbo and husband Chet of Tampa, FL; and Alissa Bridges and husband Benjamin of Bronson, FL. There are also six great grandchildren, Evelyn Chambers, Brianna Palumbo, Jenna Obidowski, Max Bridges, Brendan Palumbo and Benjamin Chambers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Kephart of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Memorials can be made to the Punxsutawney Presbyterian Church.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
