Richard Steffy Obituary

Richard Dwight Steffy, 77, of Punxsutawney, went to be with the Lord and Saviour on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at home, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He was born on June 23, 1941 in Kittanning, a son of the late Paul Edward and Dorothy Mae (Farster) Steffy.

Richard was an avid sportsman who loved being in the outdoors enjoying hunting and fishing. Another favorite pass time was hanging out with his friends at Jordan’s Taxidermy.

He cherished time with his children and grandchildren, encouraging their interests in fishing and hunting.  He really enjoying family vacations for the time spent together and for the wonderful memories that they created.

Richard battled Multiple Myeloma for eleven year but did not allow that to hold him back from forming new amazing friendships with other patients and the awesome staff at Hahne Cancer Center.  His feisty attitude and sarcastic sense of humor made his many hours at Hahne enjoyable.  He always looked forward to his visits.  He will be sadly missed by many.

Surviving relatives include three children, Richard Dwight Steffy, Jr and wife Natalie of Carlisle, Dana Ray and husband Eric of Punxsutawney, and Deborah Fisher and husband Vinnie of Copley, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Andrew Steffy, Justin Ray, Catherine (Steffy) Yeager, Nathan Ray, Kaitlyn Ray, Megan Ray, Sophia Fisher, Vinny Fisher, Jacob Fisher, and Elizabeth Fisher; one great grandchild, Phoebe Yeager; one brother, Gary Steffy and wife Susan of Mayport; one sister, Glenda Monarch and husband Bob of Columbus, Michigan; several nieces and nephews that he cherished very much.

Preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Brandon Patrick Ray.

In accordance with his wishes there will be no viewing.  Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until noon on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at One Life Church, 500 Pine Street, Punxsutawney.

A memorial service will be held at One Life Church at noon, officiated by Pastor Guy Smith.

A luncheon will follow at the church.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Steffy’s memory to Shriners Children Hospital, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 (earmarked for Shriners Children Hospital of Philadelphia) or Hahne Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Drive, DuBois, PA 15801.
