Ray Sloniger Obituary

Ray Eugene Sloniger, 85, of Punxsutawney, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at home.

He was born on June 07, 1933 in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Harry and Lola (Stiver) Sloniger.

Mr. Sloniger was a United States Army Veteran.

He was a lifetime member of the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church.

On August 11, 1956, he married the former Shirley Mae Wells.  She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.

Ray worked at Penn Parts for many years, he had previously worked as a maintenance man at the DuBois mall, and as a groundskeeper at the Punxsutawney Country Club.

His enjoyments were eating at Punxsy Phil’s and Ponderosa with his wife Shirley.  He loved to watch ball games, to include football, baseball and an occasional hockey game.

In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by four children, Melinda Hosey and husband Ken of Mayport, Ralph Sloniger of Punxsutawney, Anna Marie Reitz and husband Jim of Chester, VA, and Tim Sloniger and wife Shirley of Timblin; daughter in law, Cheri Sloniger of Punxsutawney; ten grandchildren, Christy Stratton, Jenny Troyer, Josh Hosey, Selina Scarpaci, Trent Sloniger, Travis Sloniger, Ryan Reitz, Tyler Reitz, Jason Sloniger and Jordan Sloniger; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Florence Fetterman of Alexandria, VA.

Preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jim Sloniger, one brother, Bob Sloniger, one sister, Evelyn Vanderpool.

Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home officiated by Reverend Steve Cassidy.

Interment will be at Circle Hill Cemetery.
