Lonnie Lee Powers, 80, of Big Run passed away at home on Friday, October 27, 2017.

He was born on August 12, 1937, one of fifteen children of Daniel and Ida (Luce) Powers.  Lonnie was the last of his immediate family.

On January 10, 1959 he married his sweetheart, Marian Lee Sebring.  She preceded him in death on September 22, 2011.

Mr. Powers previously worked as a machinist at Osburn's Machine Shop.

His enjoyments were being with his family, spending time with his dogs, Ursa, Missy during their doggy lifetimes, and most recently his dog, Alex.

Lonnie's passion was gardening. He maintained a beautiful backyard of flowers and he built an incredible waterfall that added sound and serenity to the already perfect flower garden.  He was awarded "Garden of the month" in July of 2006, of which he was very proud to be the recipient.

He is survived by two children, George Powers and wife Peggy, and Cindy Covatch and husband Denny, all of Punxsutawney; three grandchildren, Rusty, Patrick, and Heather; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his dear wife Marian, his parents, granddaughter, Holly Lynn Matthews; nine brothers, Daniel, Emery, Max, Bernard, William, James, Clyde, Craig and Ord Powers; five sisters, Shirley Garthwaite, Gladys Machnik, Frances Powers, Donna Shoemaker, Dolores Breck.

Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2017 at the funeral home, officiated by Mayor Joseph Buterbaugh.

Interment will follow at McClure Cemetery, Big Run.

Memorial donations may be made in Lonnie's memory to the Big Run Volunteer Fire Company.
