John Louis Carcella

John Louis Carcella, 90, of Punxsutawney, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born November 30, 1926 in Rossiter, PA a son of the late Elmer and Anna (Pitzerell) Carcella.

Mr. Carcella was a World War II Army Veteran.

On September 17, 1955 he married the love of his life, Irene E. Stiver.  She survives him.  He was a very caring, compassionate, and loving husband of nearly sixty two years.

Together with his wife, he owned and operated Suburban Auto Glass.

He was a Sunday school teacher at St. Phillips United Methodist Church for many years.  He was a wise and Godly man that spent many hours in his later years watching religious programs on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.

His enjoyments were hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife Irene, he is survived by two grandchildren, Eric Toy and fiancé Jessie Bowser of Punxsutawney, and Cheryl Gemmell and husband Eric of Carlisle; two great grandchildren, Andrea and John Gemmell;  twin sisters, Mary Hurd of Punxsutawney and Rose Chiedor of Greensburg, sister, Betty Saiani and husband Bruno of Latrobe, sister Diane Hallman of Punxsutawney; two brothers, James Carcella of DuBois, and Richard Carcella and wife Sandra of Downingtown, PA; a very special nephew, Joe Carcella, who was always there to help John, and several other nieces and nephews who also lent a hand and will miss him dearly.

Preceded in death by his only daughter, Gloria Toy.

Friends will be received from 3-6 Friday, November 24, 2017 and from 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., in Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Randy Evans.  Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Jefferson County Honor Guard.

Interment will follow at Bowers Cemetery, Gaskill Township.
