Joan L. Bowers

Joan L. Bowers, 63, of Punxsutawney lost her battle with cancer and passed away quietly June 13, 2017 at Christ The King Manor in DuBois.   Joan was born in DuBois on May 10, 1954 the daughter of the late James D. and Anna Mae (Haag) Bowers.  Joan's mother, Anna Mae, survives and resides in the Troutville Area. 

Although Joan was from the local area, she resided in Ashburn, VA for over 30 years where she worked at the Pentagon in Cyber Security for CGI Technologies and Solutions, Inc.    Joan was a member of the Troutville United Church of Christ; loved the outdoors; and was quite fond of wildlife and bird watching.  She was also an avid reader and a perfectionist when it came to quilting, an endeavor she thoroughly enjoyed.  Joan had many passions, but perhaps her greatest love was for her Westie,  "Spike".  Spike was her best friend and companion -- he was her whole world and the two were inseparable.  Despite her illness, Joan was always an optimist and her hope was to outlive her mother and to enjoy life to the fullest. 

Joan is survived by her mother, Anna Mae and was preceded in death by her father, James Doyle Bowers.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home immediately following visitation at 4:00 p.m. with Pastors Barry Fillman and Audra Krise officiating.

Joan will be interred at the Troutville United Church of Christ Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory can be made to the Troutville United Church of Christ.
