Irene Claire “Gigi” Ames, 77, of DuBois, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
She was born November 28, 1940 in Robinson, Allegheny County, a daughter of the late Robert Gale and Rosa Frances (Miller) Hinton.
Her passion in life was learning sign language through Gallaudet University. She loved being an Interpreter for the deaf for over ten years.
Irene was a vibrant woman that enjoyed volunteering at Christ the King, and formerly hosted deaf awareness classes with Abby the dog at Punxsutawney High School.
She is survived by three children, Kimberly Vos of DuBois, William G. Clark of Clearfield, and Greg A. Clark of Port Orange, Florida; twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren; Gale Hinton and wife Lorraine of Armagh; and brother in law Darrell States of DuBois.
Preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Lucinda Ryals and Pamala Garthwait; three granddaughters, Tonya Watson, Tracy Vos and Melinda Clark; one sister, Ruby States.
In accordance to Irene’s wishes there will be no viewing or visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Irene’s ashes will be interred at Devers Cemetery, Indiana County.
