Gertrude Ann Smouse, 81, of Big Run, passed away with her husband by her side on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
She was born at home in Brookville on September 27, 1937, a daughter of the late Harry C. and Reba M. (Harriger) Himes.
On October 7, 1961 she married the love of her life, Myron Wade Smouse. He survives and resides in Big Run.
Ann was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, near Big Run. She and her husband extended kindness to others over the years through home cooked meals that they would deliver to friends and neighbors having a difficult time.
She was a hard worker and always put forth extra effort to do her job and go above expectation. She was very kind and considerate to her coworkers and led by example in her commitment to doing her best on everything she put her hands to.
Her employment was at Loree Footwear, Riverside Market in the Deli Department, Biggies Meats and Wellington Heights.
She was a former member of Big Run Volunteer Fire Company Auxilliary.
The highlight of Ann’s life was her family, she especially adored her grandchildren as they are very dear to her. She loved every second she was able to spend with them.
In addition to her husband Myron, she is survived by her son, Myron J. Smouse and wife Kristen of Vandergrift; three grandchildren, Wade Smouse and Abby of Treasure Lake, Nevan and Davin Smouse of Vandergrift; one great grandson, Brycen Smouse.
Preceded in death by three brothers, James R. Himes, Carl E. Himes and Robert I. Himes; one sister, Bertha Andrews.
As per Ann’s request, there will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.
Memorial donations may be made in Ann’s memory to St. Judes Children Research.
