George Carol, 71, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

George was born in Punxsutawney on May 24, 1946, the eldest son of George Carol, Sr. and Virginia Hewitt Carol. A graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School class of 1965, he served 6 years in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam era. After his service, he worked for PennDoT for 30 years in various capacities including surveyor, yard man and operator instructor.

On May 3, 1969, he married the love of his life, Linda Anthony Carol. They spent the next 48 years together as soul mates. The two were rarely apart throughout their time together. They had one daughter, Julie, to whom he couldn't have been a better father.

George was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Punxsutawney and was an advisor to the Women's Aglow Chapter of Punxsutawney. He served as a minister under the Association of International Gospel Assemblies for over 12 years.

George was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life and enjoyed camping with his family every summer. He also loved to travel, visiting 33 states and 7 countries during his life. He especially loved his travels to Central and South America where he performed ministerial work, helped build homes, and performed medical outreach services with his wife. While his travels were sources of happiness for him, his most joyful days were those spent with his family.

He was the most spectacular grandfather to Nicholas and Madison, with whom he shared his love of gardening, fishing, and practical jokes.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter Julie and son-in-law Jerry Cantwell and their children Nicholas and Madison VanTassel of Pacific Grove, CA; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Cindy Carol of Rossiter, PA; a sister and brother-in-law Jean and Merle "Mac" Campbell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Carol Rhinehand.

A memorial service will be held at the Jefferson Manor at a later date. There will also be a Celebration of Life service at the First Assembly of God church in Punxsutawney at a date to be determined.   All services will be announced accordingly once arrangements are made.

Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Frostburg, PA.

He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be made in George's name to Gideon's Cry Ministry International, Box 44 Numine, PA 16244.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc of Punxsutawney.
