Evelyn Phillips Obituary

Evelyn Matilda ("Tilllie") Grube Phillips (95), formerly of Punxsutawney, departed this life on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at AristaCare at Hillsdale Park in Hillsdale, PA.
The youngest daughter of Harry Frederick Grube, Sr., and Elsie Dee (Stokes) Grube, Tillie was born at home on Belmont Avenue in Punxsutawney in May 1923.
In 1941, Tillie graduated from Punxsutawney High School. In April of the following year, she married Kenneth E. Phillips just before his departure to begin his service with the Seabees of the U.S. Navy in World War II. Tillie and Ken were married for 72 years at the time of Ken's passing in November 2014.
Tillie was the mother of five daughters and a very busy and creative homemaker. Over the years, Tillie also worked outside the home as a part-time sales clerk in several local stores including Katherine Noonan's, The Jordan Store and Hungers Office Supply & Card Cupboard.
Tillie was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church, where she participated in the Hannah-Esther Circle and also where, in earlier years, she had taught Sunday School.
Preceding Tillie in death were her husband; her beloved parents (Pup and Mum); two older sisters Emma "Jane" Renner (and husband Frank) and Elsie ("Sis") Gamble (and husband Lee); an older brother Harry Frederick ("Pay") Grube, Jr. (and wife Ruth); and a younger brother Joseph Grube. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Tillie leaves behind five daughters: Penny Neal and husband Charles of Radford, VA; Kathy Spielman and husband Harry of Indiana, PA; Pamela Measley and husband Tony of Hershey, PA; Cindy Phillips and Tracy Phillips, both of Harrisburg, PA. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Matthew Neal and wife Nancy of Granville, OH; Adam Neal and significant other Caroline Gaskins of Radford, VA; Katie Stossel and husband Tony of Indiana, PA; Nicholas Spielman of Indiana, PA; Sarah Robertson and husband Jay of Elizabethtown, PA; and Nathaniel Measley of Wilmington, DE, as well as four great-grandchildren: Joseph Neal, Emily Neal, Stella Stossel and Scarlett Stossel. Other survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church on the corner of West Mahoning and Church Street.
A funeral service officiated by Pastor Paul Ritchey will be held at 11 a.m. at the Church. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc.
