Betty Evans Obituary

Betty Ruth Evans, 93, of Punxsutawney passed away quietly at Christ the King Manor in DuBois on September 04, 2018.

Betty was born on April 19, 1925 in Punxsutawney, the only child of Charles Spindler and Ruth E. (Spindler) Wolfe.

She was the wife of Howard Edgar “Chappy” Evans.  He preceded her in death on May 28, 1993.

Betty attended the Zion Methodist Church in York, PA.

Mrs. Evans spent many years working in the garden department at G.C. Murphy’s, which became Murphy Mart and lastly known as Ames.

Her enjoyments were crafts and gardening.

She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother that will be sadly missed by her family.

Her children are Charles “Charlie” Smith and wife Gladys of Summerville, South Carolina, “Pete” Smith and wife Sharon of Punxsutawney, and Susan Smith of York; three grandchildren, Chris Bucci and husband Lenny, Bryan Smith and wife Tracy, and Greg Smith and wife Barb; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

There will be no viewing.  Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2018 at Chestnut Grove Independent Church officiated by Pastor Joe Spack.

Her ashes will be interred at Circle Hill Cemetery.
