Betty Barr Obituary

Betty Bell Barr, 92, of Brookville, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

She was born on November 25, 1925 in Knox Township, Jefferson County, a daughter of the late Gerald Harris and Bonnie Alma (Thrush) Gelnett.

Betty was first married to Harris Miller, he preceded her in death in 1947.  She then became the wife Wilbert George Benson Knapp, who preceded her in death in 1982.  Clarence Oscar Barr was her third husband, who also preceded her in death 2008.

Betty previously worked at Sylvania, McCabe Drug and S&T Bank.  She was a former member of Brookville Eastern Star.

She was an immaculate homemaker, she loved tending her flowers, gardening, and sewing.  Betty loved taking care of others, her utmost goal in life was to become a nurse.

Survived by two children, Deborah Gay Park and husband Dean, and Phillip Mark Knapp and wife Janice, all of Brookville; three step children, Vonnie Shaffer and husband Glenn of Corsica, Crystal Cochran and husband Denny of Brookville, and Gary Barr of Brookville; eight grandchildren, thirteen step grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and step great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; one brother, Jeff Alton Gelnett and wife Sherrie of DuBois; one sister, Connie Leigh Blanchette and husband Bob of WA; Bob Wadding of Dayton and Bea Barr of Brookville.

Preceded in death by her husbands, a son, Gerald Miller; daughter, Pamela Ann Lightcap; granddaughter, Mindy (Park) Bowser; brother Cornelius “Neil” Sayers Gelnett; two sisters, Dorothy Reinard and Gloria Hope Lingenfelter.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Linda Chambers and Jeff Gelnett.

Interment will follow at St. John’s Windy Hill, Rose Township, Jefferson County.

Memorial donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Coolspring or Stanton United Methodist Church.
