Bertha Ilene Maze

Bertha Ilene Maze, 87, of Punxsutawney, died Wednesday October 11, 2017, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born on March 26, 1930 in Creekside (Indiana), Pa., a daughter of the late James M. Gibson and Hulda (Calhoun) Gibson.

Bertha married Edward Leroy Maze. He preceded her in death in February 2005.

She was a homemaker and a great mom. She was dearly loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also had a good sense of humor and enjoyed laughter and smiles with her family.

Bertha enjoyed golfing at the Punxsutawney Country Club and bowling. She was a member of the Eagles and the Elks.

She is survived by four children, two daughters, Janet Haines of Keyser, West Virginia; and Brenda Winterstine and husband John of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; two sons, Michael E. Maze of Punxsutawney; and Daniel Maze and wife Traci of Schereville, IN; ten grandchildren, Gail Hegwood; Gregory Cox; Joann Boyd; John Winterstine, Jr.; David, Christopher and Robert Maze; and Jacob, Noah and James Maze; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Raymond Gibson; and four sisters, Alberta Fyock; Iva Marshall; Florence Campbell; and Mary Smith.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., in Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with hospice chaplain Tom Spiker officiating.

Interment will be at Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville.
