Richard E. Zimmerman, 65 of Punxsutawney passed away quietly on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois after succumbing to a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Richard was born on December 12, 1950 in DuBois, a son of the late Earl Euclair and Della Mae Mohney (Trayer) Zimmerman.  He married his wife, Marilyn on April 17, 1993, who survives.  Richard and Marilyn's love for one another was enduring and endless.

Richard was an incredible man and inspiration to all.  He had a gentle spirit and was soft spoken with a kind and giving heart.   He was a humble, non assuming man who was quietly, but very proud of his Native-American heritage having been accepted by the Tolowa Tribe of Crescent City CA. Richard was a direct descendent of the Tolowa Nation; and as such, accepted by the tribe as a Tolowa Dee-ni' (Citizen) which is a rare, but highly regarded honor.  In his spare time, Richard enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and "tramping" through the woods with his grandchildren.  In fact, he liked the outdoors so much that he chose the first day of fishing season, April 17, 1993 to marry Marilyn. Richard retired from Penn DOT where he worked as an operator.  He and his family attended the Countryside Baptist Church.

Richard is survived by his wife Marilyn of 23 years, his step-son Brad Curry and his wife Traci of Wake Forest, NC; his step-daughter, Becky Gresock and her husband Matt of Punxsutawney; his brother, Dr. Terrance Zimmerman of Dover, DE; and his grandchildren, Gage and Derek Gresock, and Austin and London Curry

In addition to his parents, Earl and Della, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Eric Zimmerman.

Friends will be received at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc of Punxsutawney on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. and officiated by Pastor Don Pendley.

Interment will follow at the Emerickville United Methodist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Zimmerman's memory to the American Cancer Societ
