Mildred Florence Schreckengost, 86, of Laurel Brook Landing in Brookville (formerly of Ringgold)  went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 2, 2017 at Penn Highlands Brookville.

She was born March 3, 1931 a daughter of the late Lloyd and Helen (Sowers) Reed.

Mildred became the wife of Harry J. "Smoke" Schreckengost and together they made their home in Ringgold.  He preceded her in death on November 13, 1994.

Mrs. Schreckengost was a member of the Dora Evangelical Church.  She had a love of God, family and for this great country that allowed her so many opportunities.

She was a kind, caring and giving person that was always willing to help anyone in need.  She was loved by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.

Mildred was a pioneer for women, being the first girl to take the Agriculture Course at Punxsutawney Area High School and excelling to one of the top corn growers.

In her later years she volunteered at many places, always wanting to help whenever there was a need, which led her to be named RSVP Volunteer of the month in August of 2000.

She is survived by two sisters, Carlene Heitzenrater and husband Samuel "Clair" of Corsica and Fay E. Dinger of Girard; two brothers, Ray E. Reed and wife Melva of Ringgold and Russell Reed of Punxsutawney; brother in law Harry Junior Bish; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Shirley L. Bish, sister in law Janet E. Reed, and brother in law Melvin Dinger.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Dora Evangelical Church in Dora, officiated by Pastor Kenneth Alt and Pastor Wayne Taylor.

Interment will follow at St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Ringgold.

Memorial donations may be made in Mildred's memory to the Dora Evangelical Church, 2417 Dora Timblin Road, Punxsutawney.
