Marcella Zeedick McCord

Marcella Zeedick McCord, 87, of Shaker Heights, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, October 30, 2017.

 Marcella was born on June 24, 1930 in Anita, outside of Punxsutawney, to the late Andrew and Ellen (Kallas) Zeedick. Marcella married the late Richard Dean McCord on August 23, 1953. Richard preceded her in death on August 9, 2009.

Marcella left Punxsutawney in 1948 to attend Fenn College in Cleveland. At Fenn Marcella studied finance and met her future husband Richard at Sunday service in Cleveland. During her lifetime Marcella raised 6 children and worked as an accountant. Once her children were grown, Marcella became a real estate agent and worked at Feiss and Fuerst in Beachwood and Realty One in Shaker Heights. Marcella was an advocate for minorities and enjoyed helping those most in need. Marcella and her family attended Saint Dominic Church in Shaker Heights, liked to garden, and enjoyed international travel with her husband Richard. To Marcella life was all about family, especially her grandchildren whom were the light of her life. The daughter of a coal miner, Marcella was hard working and tenacious. She had a "can do attitude", and worked for a better life for herself and her children.

Marcella is survived by five of her six children. Richard of Wilmington, NC, Catherine of Barrington, IL, James (wife Kimberly) of Plymouth, MI, Mary Flynn (husband Timothy) of Granville, OH and Laura DeLuca (husband Scott) of Rockport, MA.  Her son Michael McCord passed in 2015 and is survived by his wife Claudia McCord and their children. Her eight grandchildren Timothy Flynn Jr (wife Christina), Patrick Flynn (fiancée Carly Vink), Kelly Higgins (husband Matthew), Lindsay McCord, Clare McCord, Finn McCord, Lila DeLuca and Anderson DeLuca. And her great-grandchildren Emma Flynn and Sawyer Flynn.

Friends will be received at the Shumaker Funeral Home of Punxsutawney from 2 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2017.

 A Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Peter and Paul Byzantine Church at 10 AM Monday, November 6, 2017 celebrated by Father William Lascelles.

Interment will be at St. Peter and Paul Byzantine Cemetery in Adrian, PA with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marcella’s memory can be made to St. Peter and Paul Byzantine Church or St. Dominic Church.
