James Richard Kuntz, 86, of Punxsutawney, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Hillsdale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
He was born July 08, 1931 in Gaskill Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Mildred (Kuntz) Sheesley.
Mr. Kuntz served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict where he was a Naval Firefighter aboard the USS Watts.
Jim was a member of the Big Run Presbyterian Church.
He married the former Ethel Mae Billings, she preceded him in death in 1977. The former Deloris J. (Bargerstock) Reitz became his second wife, she also preceded him in death in 1999.
Jim worked as a machinist at Marlin Rockwell in Jamestown, NY, he was co-owner of Big Run Quaker State with his brother Chuck Kuntz for ten years, worked as a truck driver for North American Van Lines, and retired as a security guard at Treasure Lake through Truhart Security Services,
He was a member of NRA, the Eagles Post # 1231, the VFW Post #2076 and the Rossiter Sportsman Club, where he enjoyed shooting his gun. Jim was IUP certified in lethal weapons.
He was a quiet, private, laid back man that enjoyed walking and keeping an immaculate home and car.
Survived by a step daughter, Carolyn Johnston, a step son, Ron Reitz; one step brother, George Sheesley; two step sisters, Janet Staples and Shirley Payton, both of GA; special niece Val Tokash and husband Theodore of Big Run; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his mother, step son, Rick Reitz, one brother, Charles Kuntz; two step brothers, Thomas and Robert Sheesley; one sister, Helen Schoelles, and step sister, Carol Custer.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
His ashes will be interred at McClure Cemetery.
