James A. Curry, 81, of Punxsutawney, went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2018 after living with Parkinson’s Disease. He was lovingly cared for by his wife Joyce (Dawson) at home where he died peacefully with family by his side. They were married 58 years.

Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Joyce (Dawson), and his four sons: Kenneth (Kelley) of Woodbridge, VA, Jeffrey (Marie) of Bogart, GA, Stephen of Enola, PA, and Kevin (Paulette) of Manassas, VA. Jim’s surviving siblings are Edward (Carol) of Wichita, KS and S. Thomas (Karen) of Punxsutawney, PA.  He is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Mary Jane (Hamilton) Curry, his brother Robert (Marilyn) Curry, and granddaughter, Mackenzie Grace.

Jim has seven surviving grandchildren whom he enjoyed spending time with and loved dearly: Cameron, Caroline, and Carson of Bogart, GA; Blake and Paul of Manassas, VA, and Nicholas and Andrew of Woodbridge, VA. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country.

Jim was a life long resident of Punxsutawney, born September 10, 1936. He graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1954 after which he worked for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad for eleven years as an agent. He then worked as a police officer for the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department and retired after 25 years of service. Jim also served in the Army Reserves in the 403rd Replacement Company.

Jim was an active member of The First Baptist Church of Punxsutawney where he served as a Trustee. He also served as a manager and then commissioner for the VFW Baseball League. Jim lived a life of service to his family, his community, and to his Lord. He lived his life as a shining example to his children and grandchildren who love him very much.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018, officiated by Pastor Marcia Schaeffer.

Interment will follow at Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
