James H. Braunns, Sr., 80, of Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 at home with his loving wife and family by his side.

He was born on October 25, 1936 in Reynoldsville, a son of the late James Harry and Emma Carolyn (Jones) Braunns.

Muriel "Mel" Bryce McGee was the love of his life and they married on August 16, 1958.  Life blessed them with fifty nine years of marriage and a wonderful family.

Jim worked in the gas services industry, where he met and made many friends over the years.  He worked as a Well Tender for various companies over the years and eventually retired from Mid East Oil Company.

His heart and soul was always with his family. He loved to hunt, fish, trap, raise animals, tinker around, and spend time with his boys doing anything and everything together around the homestead.

Jim was a gracious man that built crosses for several churches, helped with fishing rodeos and other church activities. He was quick to assist a neighbor or anyone that needed a helping hand.

He was a member of National Rifle Association.

In addition to his wife "Mel", he is survived by five sons, James H. Braunns, Jr. and wife Joyce of Johnstown, Timothy Braunns of Mahaffey, Lorne Braunns, of Punxsutawney, Henry Braunns of Punxsutawney, and Shannon Braunns and wife Amanda of DuBois; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Marlene States and husband Charles of Punxsutawney,  and Shirley Forsythe of Delmont; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Hollsworth; two sisters, Nancy Hauck and Lois Hollsworth.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2017 and from 10-11 a.m Monday at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, officiated by his son, Pastor James Braunns.

Interment will follow at Pearce Cemetery, Rossiter.

Memorial donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Tom Siple Foundation, 1656 Ringgold-Timblin Road, Timblin, PA 15778.
