George Bennett Obituary

George William Bennett, 79, of Punxsutawney died Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born on December 25, 1938 a son of the late Perry Leroy and Margaret (Shields) Bennett.

Mr. Bennett served in the United States Army, where he was awarded the DVR Badge w/bar, Sharpshooter, and Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member of Mt Carmel Clover Run Church.

On November 30, 1996 he married Nancy Lee (Truance) Bair.  She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.

George worked as a truck driver for P&N Coal and various other trucking companies over the years.

He was also a member of the Rossiter American Legion.

His enjoyments were reading the Bible, word searches, Puzzles and watching the news.

George will be fondly remembered for being a loving husband and a “good dad.”

In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by four children, Kimberly Vanyo and husband Brian of Rossiter, Bryan Bennett and wife Susan of SC, Michael Bennett of Weedville and Kristen Beck of Weedville; three step children, Christa Overbeck and husband Jim of Sykesville, Heather Mills and husband Jim of Big Run, and Mike Bair and wife Michele of VA; thirteen grandchildren, one great grandchild; two brothers, Perry Bennett and wife Nancy of Ford City and Richard Bennett and wife Avonell of Rossiter; one sister, Mary Mae Craft and husband Ken of Butler.

Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Douglas and Robert Bennett, two sisters, Dora Sitosky and infant Emma Grace Bennett, and grandson, Randy Bennett.

At Mr. Bennett’s request there will be no visitation.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.

He will be interred at Mt Carmel Clover Run Cemetery.
