Eleanor Louise Shaffer, 65, of Valier, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 3, 2017.

She was born September 25, 1951 in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Clinton Eugene and Mildred Louise (Priester) Shaffer.

Ellie was a 1969 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.  Following graduation she completed computer training. Her training led to her career working for Jefferson Grocery until her retirement.

She was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, where she was very actively involved, and also served as the church treasurer.  She was also a member of the Mt. Zion cemetery committee.

Ellie was a very selfless person that was also generous soul that was very giving of her time and resources.  She loved her family dearly, especially her niece and nephew whom she claimed as her own.  She enjoyed taking them camping, playing cards and board games for hours.  She loved Christmas and Groundhog Day, and keeping with her generosity she made sure that everyone had plenty of gifts, Groundhog shirts and memorabilia.  She loved attending all the activities in Barclay Square each year. Watching the deer play and carry on in her yard brought her daily joy. She also enjoyed watching football games.

She enjoyed playing softball, bowling and Bridge.  She genuinely like people and was easy to strike up a friendship with through her humor and likeable personality.

Surviving family includes one sister, Carol Shaffer and husband Larry of Cranberry; nephew Larry Shaffer Jr and wife Tracy; niece Stacy Fritts and husband Kevin; special grand nephews, Nick and Bradley Fritts; Especially close to Aunt and Uncle Paul and Marlene Shaffer;  her kitties Missy and Janie; grandpuppies, Buddy Shaffer and Chase and Casey Fritts.

Preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Mildred Shaffer; paternal grandparents, William and Edith Shaffer; maternal grandparents, Charles and Cora Priester.

Friends will be received from 4-8 Thursday, February 9, 2017 and from 11-1 p.m. Friday at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Joe Spack.

Interment will follow at Oliveburg Cemetery.
